I started studying piano at the age of nine. Then, at the age of twenty, I encountered the double bass. I immediately recognised in its sound, its physical presence, and its depth a voice that felt profoundly connected to my own.
Leaving the piano behind and starting again from the beginning was one of the most important decisions of my artistic life. It taught me to trust curiosity over certainty, a principle that continues to guide my work today.
The double bass has become an extension of my body.
My goal is not to make the double bass something different.
My goal is to channel what's in my mind through it.
As a composer I experience sound through colours, images, and physical sensations; this way of perceiving the world naturally becomes part of my writing process.
For me, a performance is like looking through the clear ice of a frozen lake. You see your own reflection and, beyond it, the world beneath the surface. For a moment, you step into my world, only to discover something of your own.
